As excited as everyone is to close the 2020 chapter, it’s important to remember that this year gave us some unique opportunities to travel to new places and take advantage of fantastic rates, empty flights, and last-minute availability. This summer has been very successful with domestic trips and as the year comes to a close, we can slowly (and thoughtfully) travel abroad again and celebrate quality time with loved ones.

Did you know Uruguay is just across the water from Buenos Aires? I keep on going back to Buenos Aires and fall in love with Argentina a little more each time. But Buenos Aires is not the star of this piece, Uruguay is! 

Uruguay may be the second smallest country in South America, but it is one of its true gems. Very safe, economically stable, and relatively under the radar compared to neighbors Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay is rapidly becoming a favorite among the well-traveled.

Throughout this crisis, one of the requests we have been increasingly receiving is for private properties to host your family reunions and groups of friends, in a controlled environment, as soon as states reopen. While luxury real estate executive Julie Harron prepared to celebrate her expansion to Palm Beach in early March with over 200 guests, the reality of COVID-19 postponed the JH Real Estate Group launch at Hindman Palm Beach, co-sponsored by her friend Jay Krehbiel. The ultra-elegant Harron, who grew up as an avid participant in the Palm Beach and Jupiter social circles, knew it didn’t change her commitment to offering Palm Beach to her clientele. In fact, Harron became a pandemic prognosticator, knowing that Palm Beach would be the place where discerning people would love to shelter, and bring family together.

We chose some of our favorite knee-dropping destinations from around the globe—and asked veteran luxury travel advisor, Shawna Huffman Owen, for some recommendations —where you can revel in your engagement with the person you just happen to love the most in the world.

Social distancing doesn’t have to happen in your home. Kids are on spring break or in online school, and you are working remotely. Why not move your family to a safe, new destination where you can do exactly the same (limit social interactions) while still enjoying the great outdoors, or at least changing the view from your window.

While we may feel more limited than ever in our activity, that doesn’t mean we can’t dream.

During this period of social distancing, we wanted to share some inspiration for keeping busy, entertained, and healthy. Some of our suggestions are meant to bring travel to you, whether you’re sitting in your favorite armchair or reorganizing your home. Most of it, however, is simply meant to put a smile on your face.
