Wellness & Adventure this Winter with Auberge Resorts Collection

As we head into 2022, you may be feeling the need to push the reset button and want to consider a submersive wellness and adventure retreat in a Costa Rican rainforest; maybe the Island of Anguilla, known for its sugar-sand beaches, culinary scene, and clear waters sounds appealing; or maybe a little bit of adventure, wellness, and beach on the Big Island of Hawaii is what we are looking for? This quarter, we wanted to explore these warm destinations near us and showcase three of our favorite Auberge properties.

AltaGracia, Costa Rica

Uncover total well-being and unbridled adventure at Hacienda AltaGracia, set in the mountains of Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica. Drawing on time-proven traditions and cutting-edge science, the extensive offerings at THE WELL include transformative signature treatments, expert-led health coaching, a calendar of seasonal retreats - the next of which is Dr. John Amaral’s February 2022 retreat - and daily mindful movement sessions. Indulge in Maderoterapia, a signature holistic massage technique using wooden tools to balance energy and renew the lymphatic system. Immersive wellness experiences include an herbal River Bath alongside the Calientillo RIver and forest-bathing followed by an integrative crystal healing session. Outside, no shortage of opportunities awaits adventurers, whether an experienced thrill-seeker or simply looking to explore. Guests looking to test their mental and physical strength are challenged to go ficus tree climbing or to discover a high canopy tree hammock that offers incredible views of the adjacent rainforest. Travelers (like Shawna recently) may also enjoy a hike through the neighboring valley to Mina Escondida Waterfall for a picnic lunch or take part in a quetzal bird-watching expedition. Another option is to discover Costa Rica's natural diversity through curated day excursions reaching all corners of the country - from the Osa Peninsula or the beaches at Isla del Caño National Park, to a wildlife adventure at Tortuguero National Park. End the day at one of the resort’s beautiful dining destinations inspired by the rich diversity of ingredients and local purveyors of the region.

Malliouhana, Anguilla

If the Caribbean is more your vibe this winter, Anguilla’s Malliouhana never disappoints. The resort’s Auberge Adventures provides ample ways to enjoy experiences geared toward mindfulness and restoration in a picturesque setting. Unique offerings include lucid paddleboarding, Beach-fari excursion in an electric Moke, Catch & Cook experience where guests enjoy an afternoon of fishing at sea and an evening preparing the catch of the day with Chef, and more. Practice yoga in the open air, join poolside pilates or bluff bootcamp classes atop the Malli Bluff with stunning panoramic views. Just enough to not even feel the guilt next time you just lounge on the beach!

For the utmost pampering, relax at the tranquil Malliouhana Spa, with six spacious treatment rooms, private infinity pool, full-service salon, and premier private fitness rooms. The transformative, island-inspired spa journeys are unforgettable experiences that grant a renewed sense of peace and allow for a full immersion into the paradise that is Anguilla.

Ideal for families and friends, Malliouhana offers a spacious Two-Bedroom Turtle Cove Suite with an infinity-edge plunge pool and a Three-Bedroom Spa Suite featuring a private patio and sun terrace with sweeping views of the Anguillian sea. The Mini-Explorers Kids’ Programming offers curated journeys – where younger guests are invited to embrace their innate curiosity for the world through enchanting experiences such as the junior chef class, Anguilla kite making, treasure hunt exploration, snorkeling adventures, and boat racing.

Mauna Lani, Big Island, HI

Nestled along the dramatic Kohala Coast and in the piko, or center, of five great mountains, Mauna Lani is a sacred oasis where decades of families and friends have made memories together on soulful lands once cherished by the greatest of Hawaiian royalty. Every moment on the shores of the Big Island is special. Several of our advisors and clients have stayed at Mauna Lani and we share here some of the experiences that made their vacation unique. Before it’s your turn.

Greet the morning sun as it rises above the mountains’ peaks from the seat of an outrigger canoe, absorbing timeless wisdom imparted by the pro watermen and women of Kainalu Pro Sports. Kick back, relax, and reflect on the invaluable memories you’ve made at Mauna Lani as you savor fresh ahi poke with the sounds of live, local musicians at the soulful gathering place that is the Surf Shack. Embrace stillness and serenity at the fabled fishpond, Kalāhuipua‘a, or talk story with Mauna Lani’s beloved resident historian, Uncle Danny Akaka, who will enlighten you with tales of Hawai’i’s past and the occasional strum of a ukulele. Dine amongst the company of loved ones at their signature restaurant, CanoeHouse, where locals have savored the island’s bounty for decades.

As you walk this storied coastline, breathe the rejuvenating salt air and swim in the crystalline waters, you feel the same mana, or spiritual energy, that first captivated legends like King Kamehameha I and Francis H. I’i Brown.
