Updated in March 2025

When most travelers think of Normandy, they picture WWII history, the D-Day beaches, and a quick return to Paris. But this lesser-explored region of France has so much more to offer—from charming villages and coastal retreats to luxurious châteaux and world-class cuisine.

Honfleur & La Ferme Saint Simeon: A Seaside Retreat

My first stop was Honfleur, a picturesque harbor town just a two-hour drive or train ride from Paris.

Why Visit Honfleur?

  • Steeped in history dating back to the Norman invasion

  • Boutique shopping in a postcard-perfect setting

  • Famous salted butter caramels—a must-try delicacy

Just a five-minute walk from town, I discovered one of my favorite places in Normandy: La Ferme Saint Simeon.

La Ferme Saint Simeon: Where Art Meets Luxury

  • Historic retreat overlooking the Seine River

  • Once an inspiration for artists like Monet, who painted its thatched-roof buildings

  • Now a luxurious hotel with a cozy, open-fire bistro

I highly recommend lunch at the bistro, where the warmth of the fire and the unparalleled French cuisine create an unforgettable experience.

Château La Chenevière: A Normandy Hideaway

Next, I traveled to Château La Chenevière, a hidden gem just an hour and fifteen minutes from Honfleur.

Why Stay at Château La Chenevière?

  • Perfectly located near Bayeux, the Normandy beaches, and the American Cemetery

  • A serene escape blending history, elegance, and impeccable hospitality

  • Farm-to-table dining with produce from the château’s own garden

Even if history isn’t your passion, La Chenevière is a destination in itself. The welcoming atmosphere, incredible meals, and picturesque grounds make it the perfect place to unwind.

For those drawn to WWII history, I highly recommend a private guide to explore:

  • The Normandy beaches

  • Historic bunkers

  • Now grass-covered craters left behind from the war

The gratitude expressed throughout the region, particularly toward American soldiers, remains deeply moving.

Normandy: A World Apart from Paris

Though just a short ride from Paris, Normandy feels like a world away—offering history, culture, and hidden treasures at every turn.

For those seeking a blend of history, luxury, and culinary delights, Normandy is an unforgettable escape waiting to be explored.
