Capri & the Amalfi Coast: A Luxury Italian Escape of Sun, Sea & La Dolce Vita

Italy consistently ranks among the world’s top travel destinations, and it’s not hard to see why. The endless pursuit of "La Dolce Vita"—perfectly sun-ripened tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and leisurely, wine-soaked lunches—captures the essence of Italian charm. With its abundance of culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes, Italy is not just a one-time destination but a place that calls for return visits time and time again.
Arriving in Capri: A Seamless Journey from Rome
Our family arrived in Capri in late June, eager to bask in the Mediterranean sun after a whirlwind tour of Positano, Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Cortona, and Rome.
We opted for a private driver to transfer us from Rome to the Amalfi Coast—a decision I highly recommend. The winding coastal roads are not for the faint of heart, and having a professional driver ensured both comfort and efficiency.
Our journey included a stop in Pompeii, where we enjoyed a privately guided tour before indulging in a classic Neapolitan pizza. From there, we continued to Sorrento, where we boarded a hydrofoil and arrived in Capri just in time to unwind by the pool at our hotel.
The Allure of Capri: Italian Glamour by the Sea
Boats arriving in Capri dock at Marina Grande, a bustling hub of activity, especially in the summer months. Upon arrival, our on-site team greeted us and escorted us to one of Capri’s signature open-top taxis, offering a scenic ride through the island’s winding roads.
The heart of Capri is a pedestrian-only haven of cobblestone pathways lined with elegant boutiques and inviting cafés. Our final five-minute walk to Capri Tiberio Palace gave us our first taste of Capri’s enchanting atmosphere.
Exploring the Amalfi Coast by Private Boat
Our first full day was spent on a private boat, exploring the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. We:
Soaked up the Mediterranean sun
Stopped for refreshing swims in hidden coves
Enjoyed an unforgettable lunch at La Conca del Sogno, a coastal gem tucked along the cliffs
Later, we cruised to the famous Green and Blue Grottos of Capri. For those planning a visit to the Blue Grotto, I highly recommend arriving later in the day to avoid peak crowds and experience a serene swim in its electric-blue waters.
A Day at La Fontelina Beach Club: A Capri Icon
One of our most cherished days was spent at Fontelina Beach Club. Immortalized in Slim Aarons' iconic photographs, this legendary seaside retreat lived up to every expectation.
A scenic walk down a winding path with panoramic views of the azure sea—dotted with glamorous megayachts—led us to a sun-drenched oasis. With the dramatic Il Faraglioni rock formations as our backdrop, we spent the day:
Lounging on plush sunbeds
Indulging in fresh seafood and chilled rosé
Swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea
Capri: A Destination That Calls for Return Visits
Capri has been captivating visitors for decades, and after this unforgettable experience, I know for certain—this was not a "one and done" trip for mia famiglia!
From private boat tours and iconic beach clubs to luxurious accommodations and world-class cuisine, Capri and the Amalfi Coast remain one of Italy’s most glamorous escapes.
